How to use watercolor pencils?
Watercolor pencils are quite popular among beginning artists. They are very easy to use and can create watercolor effect without using any water source. Even young kids would love to use them to create their pictures.
Watercolor pencils combine drawing and painting together. They look the same as regular pencils, but if you look at the lettering stamped on them, you would see symbols such as a water droplet to show they are water soluble or a word such as “watercolor”.
There are several ways to use watercolor pencils.When you just started with watercolor pencils, you first sketch with them as you would with regular pencils. Then you use a web brush to blend the sketch. Since the lines from the watercolor pencils are water soluble, the lines would turn to watercolor wash. There are also other ways to use watercolor pencils. Painting with clean water over your sketching is the easiest way for beginners. When you have been painting for a while, you can try wet the pencils and then draw with them, or wet the support paper and then start drawing with watercolor pencils. When you draw on a damped paper, you would get softer and broader lines of colors than if you draw on a dry paper.
There are various brands of watercolor pencils. You can try a sample before you buy a set as different brands may be different in softness.
