Did you know your cell phone is your own personal assistant?
When I started my career I my very first job was working for a very large US bank. On top of that I was put into a position where I got to work along side the executive level management of the company. It was a job I will never forget, I was able to watch these ultra successful bankers up close and personal. Were taking about people who in my eyes were doing all the right things, they make the right decisions and leveraged their time to get ahead. I really didn’t appreciate the concept of time before this job, to me live was just taking it day by day sort of flowing with what came your way. And it showed, prior to this job I was not where I wanted to be career wise, I was just a ship sailing off course.
I chuckle now when I think about this one day, I just got done assisting a new administrative assistant get settled in when I headed for the bathroom. As I settled in to take care of business, the CIO of the company walked in and parked it right next to me. Since I had worked with him before and he liked my work he quickly asked me how I was doing and I had replied with the typical response I’m doing good. As we were standing by the sink I had asked him how one of his latest tech toys I had setup for him was working out. It was this special voice recorder that he would use to capture all sorts of notes and dictate into. Now while most of the other bankers were using the old dictation recorders, this tech savy banker was testing out the new technology. Now why wouldn’t he was the CIO of the company, and I had helped him choose this particular model. What was so special about this voice recorder was it could be connected up directly to his PC. At this time the traditional dictation recorders were simply played back and the secretary would then transcribe the sound into text for the executive to read. However this neat little device would get hooked up to a PC, and a nice piece of software would do the work the secretary was doing in a matter of minutes vs 30-40 minutes.
I was thinking about that voice recorder I had worked with almost 10 years ago when I had found this nifty little service. The company is called Jott.com, and what they allow you to do would sure make that executive proud. You can simply use your cell phone, dial an toll free number, tell the service where you would like the text to go and leave your message. It feels like your just calling someone and leaving a voice mail, its that easy to use. What I like about this service is that once you leave your message a sophisticated computer transcribe your voice to text and will post it practical anywhere. When you head over to my blog the post I created with Jott was all done from the comfort of my sofa using this amazing service. You can also set appointments to your google calendar, remind yourself of groceries you need to buy and even send out emails. If your looking for a way to leverage your time better then you have to check out this service. I know the main reason I joined was when I found out you can post to wordpress blogs I jumped at the chance to test it out. In the last few weeks of using Jott I am not giving my little time saver back.
